Take a break from the keyboard
So you have been sitting pounding on the keyboard for hours, the phone keeps ringing, you have SO many things to do before an important meeting in two hours. Ugh.. what a day. Chances are that you are feeling over whelmed by all you have to do, you may have a headache, you probably have a stiff neck from peering at the monitor, and you feel irritated every time some one interrupts you. Stop. Take a deep breath. Relax. Did you know that the slow progressive onset of neck problems, can occur due to daily 'wear and tear' due to poor postures in the work place and poor postural habits at home (ie: sitting all day with the head down over a keyboard ; having your neck projecting forward towards a monitor, and sleeping on your stomach at night) Often you may notice a slow worsening in the intensity, and frequency of their headaches, and sometimes you may even start to have migraines as well. There has been a lot of research done on neck, shoulder, injuries and other problems that develop due to the continual use of a keyboard, mouse and monitor. Many experts believe that the solution lies in rotating activities, so that you only sit in front of a keyboard and monitor for a maximum of 4-5 hours per day. This is great in theory, but often not practical in today's working world. In practice, what you can do to reduce stress and strain - is stop - take a break - do a few simple yoga neck exercises and stretches - and return to work, renewed and invigorated. While you are taking that break - grab a glass of water - take a deep breath - then take a moment to prioritize only the important matters than need your immediate attention - establish control. You will find that you will work more efficiently and effectively if you take a break from the keyboard. Your co-workers and people in contact with you will notice the difference too !
